Peter, the learner

I have discovered that Simon Peter was a man. People can belittle him all they like, until they remind themselves that he was human. As humans, we are prone to weakness. After all, God gives us weakness that we may be strong. He provides sincere and perfect help.
When Peter denied the Christ out of fear, anger, and confusion, I believe that he needed to do it. He needed to experience was true remorse and sorrow was. This experience gave his the courage, strength, and determination to face his martyr.
I hope to do as Peter. Learn from my experiences, no matter how serious and wrong they are, so that I prepared to understand and do the Lord's will in all things. Without the Lord's guiding hand, and my wrong doings, how can I hope to achieve anything in this life? I can. Peter was given the strength because he did what he needed and all he could.

The Savior Taught the Apostles about Leadership

1.) When the Lord was teaching the apostles the skills to be Leaders, he had to show them where they were weak so they could be strong.Leadership in the church is very different than in the World today. In the church, a position of leadership is given to such people as priesthood leaders feel (through the spirit) that it should be. This person often finds themselves intimated, frighten, and humbled to do such a calling. The position is considered sacred.

In The world a position of authority must be worked for and can be achieved by wicked and Good people, alike. The power doesn't have the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In fact, men praise themselves for what they have done and often... the power goes to their head and they loose the reason they originally started or destroy areas with their power.

2.)I know when I've read the scriptures, this time through, I've often thought of how rebellious the apostles were. I think in a way I was comparing them to the ones that we have today. I'm sure they have struggles, just as we all do. I often say to myself; 'But those apostles had Christ with them everyday.' My father pointed out to me something I will never forget. "When you see your own faults, especially after being with the savior, wouldn't you be very critical of yourself as you wrote about the experiences?"
My answer is undoubtedly yes. But that is just how my father is. That is how he teaches our family, with gentle kindness, and love. He is an example of how Christ teaches.

Preparing for the Savior's Second Coming

1.)
  • Have a testimony
  • Spread the gospel
  • Bear your cross.
I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that I got out of it! :D

2.) When it came to truths' I see some odd ones that I feel like apply to my life!
  • Make, where ever you stand, a holy place for you.
  • Be aware and do as you are prompted
  • God's word is peace.
  • Do the little things to prepare yourself for new direction
  • Be faithful
  • Treat everyday like it is the last, but prepare for the future.

Jewish Leaders are like...

The Jewish leaders were like the fig tree because they were teaching the letter of law and not producing 'fruit' or people that sought after more learning and they were not helping the people recognize Christ. They were also like the second son in Mathew because, as Christ said, the words spoken by the Jewish leaders were good and seemed to be good, but they weren't actually doing anything! The husbandmen is similar to the leaders because they eventually killed the savior, just as the husbandmen killed the son of the Lord. Finally the similarity to the leaders to the wedding guests and the one man without a wedding garment is; how the leaders of the jewish nation see that Christ is not, what they believe, to not abide by the law. They seek to capture him and rid themselves of this 'guest' without a wedding garment.

Parables and Accounts that Teach Eternal Truths

  • In the parable of the unjust steward I believe the Lord was trying to help us understand the importance of forgiveness. I think we often believe forgiveness is something that can be tossed to us lightly. The Lord wanted us to understand that we must forgive each other in order to have our sins forgiven. Forgiveness must be earned and worked for.
  • In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus is the importance of giving all of ourselves to the Lord. The Lord is the one who makes us rich, and who cares for us in our times of need. When we give all that we have and all that we are we learn to pattern our lives after the savior.
  • I believe that the Lord wanted us to learn the importance of gratitude. When he told the lepers to go to the priests he was allowing the lepers to help showing his power to the priests. The fact that only one returned, made the Lord sad. Not only had he given them their lives back, but he was allowing them to be apart of something greater.
  • With the parable of the unjust judge, I believe the Lord was trying to tell people to bare their cross with patience. I know that sounds a little odd for this parable, but hear me out. When we are impatient with things in our lives, and someone is able to help do we not pester them as we do the Lord? Everything happens in its own time. Vengeance is the Lord's and he will have it when he is ready.
  • I believe the Lord was trying to show us the importance of recognizing our faults. I've come up with something from my studies this semster. It's called, "Loving your problems." The Lord gives us weakness to make us strong and when we are like the publican and bow our heads, because we know we need improvement, the Lord will help us.
